NEW YORK CITY — More wet weather is heading toward the Northeast as rain and thunderstorms are expected to return to New York City by the end of the workweek.
New Yorkers are bracing for another round of storms beginning Wednesday night and continuing through Thursday.
Rainfall totals are expected to range between a quarter and half an inch. The National Weather Service projects a 60% chance of rain starting early Thursday morning, primarily between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m.

This upcoming wave follows severe weather that hit the region at the same time last week, which left over 20,000 residents across New York without power.
Monthly Rainfall Projections
With more rain on the horizon, prediction markets at Kalshi are forecasting total precipitation levels for New York City through the end of August:
- Over 4 Inches: Analysts predict an 88% chance of total rainfall exceeding 4 inches by the end of the month.
- Over 5 Inches: There is a 65% chance of total rainfall topping 5 inches.
Since the beginning of August, the city has already accumulated 3.2 inches of precipitation.
Weekend Weather Outlook
Residents can expect a brief respite from the wet conditions on Friday and Saturday. However, the dry spell will be short-lived, as a 30% chance of rain returns Sunday evening and carries into Monday.
